The Stanmore Cricket Club 3rd XI v Southgate on Sat 07 Sep 2002 at 12.30 pm
The Stanmore Cricket Club Lost 34 Runs

Match report A phone call to Rod Mason on Saturday morning, and I finally get my eleventh man. Well the eleven men on paper ends up as nine on the field as Dessie's wife decides it's time to go into labour, and Mohan just doesn't show.
Well the nine men of Stanmore put up a sterling performance against the Champions Southgate. Bill Robello and James Mason bowl superbly as we restrict Southate to 181 for 8.
We are handily placed at 40 for 1 at tea. This soon became 40 for 3 in the first over after tea, but hay this is Stamnore 3rd's your talking about here.
Nevertheless, we battle on and reach 87 for 7 when Rod Mason joins eldest offspring James at the crease. There then followed one of the most pleasing passages of Cricket of the season. With James slogging it miles and Rodney perfecting the Radlett Rush, the Soutgate skipper was looking a worried man.
Alas, it all ended too soon. A snorter from the opening bowler was fended away to be gleefully caught by the keeper, and our season was over.
