Match report Finchley off bottom after second victory
Stanmore 136 Finchley 137-5
Middlesex County League Division One
Finchley moved off the bottom of the table with their second league win of the season on Saturday.
Sarel Cilliers made full advantage of the damp conditions in a superb spell of seam bowling, taking five for 50 off 19 overs, and Robbie Hodges (50 not out) batted well to assure Finchley of ten precious points.
Put in, the visitors were in dire straits at 33-5 as Cilliers struck, helped by a magnificent diving catch by Graham Leggett to dismiss opener Jeff Hurrell.
Stanmore skipper Glucka Wijesuriya resisted patiently for an hour.
After he fell lbw to Ford (2-50 from 22 overs), Navin Samarakoon (48), played a fine innings with support from Nick Goh, 15-year-old Jake Lofdahl and David Dunn, as Stanmore totalled 136.
Finchley lost Knappett in the first over but Hodges (50 no) batted confidently, backed by Shaps Khann (26) and Jake Milton (24) as Finchley won with 137-5.
