Match report A heartening win against a team that usually puts up stiff opposition.
Having won the toss we gambled and opted to field despite having only nine men. Things didn't go to plan as we did not field to our normal standards. The outfield was a little uneven but relatively quick. Some conservative fielding, as we waited for the ball to arrive, rather than attack it, and a couple of dropped chances allowed the two HSM openers to take full advantage and bat into the 20th over making 125. The score sheet flatters us as the three wickets HSM lost fell in the last three balls.
The score of 126 to win looked achievable if we played to our strengths. Some really good running between the wickets by Thomas and Hamish scoring 42 for the first wicket and then between Thomas and Harry making 78 for the second wicket took us to the brink of victory and we got home after 14.5 overs.
Thomas was clearly determined to outdo Ed's 58 the night before, making 60. There were numerous suggestions that Simon should be permanently banished to the colonies if this is the effect his absence has.
We learned that we need to work on attacking the ball in the outfield and preventing ones being turned into twos.
