Harrow Town v The Stanmore Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 28 Jun 2003 at 1.30
The Stanmore Cricket Club Won 40 Runs
Match report
Controversial game or what!
Things started badly when the skipper lost the toss. Stanmore were inserted and the master plan thrown out of the window.
Harradine and Mason score at 6 an over until both out in successive balls in the tenth over. Following a period of consolidation, Stanmore proceed to lose 5 wickets for 30 runs leaving the innings tottering at 123 for 7 after 30 overs. Ian Jones and Moshin put on 85 in ten overs for the eighth wicket. Jones is finally bowled for 80 (13 4's 3 6's) leaving Farooq and Shani to try to bat out until 50 overs. Farooq (31 no) went beserk, and the last wicket added 49 before Shani was bowled in the 50th over with the score on 261.
Harrow open up with a dodgy Aussie who proceeded to crash the ball to all parts of the ground. Farooq had a no ball problem which contributed to Harrow scoring at 10 an over.
First change of bowling brought the first bit of aggro. Jeff Kan took a catch cleanly within the boundary. Stanmore umpire said out, Harrow umpire said not out. Both umpires meet on the boundary to try and sort the issue out. Harrow umpire refuses to take other boundary fielders view so batsman get very big beneft of doubt.
Second change of bowling brings more controversy. Farooq os brought back form the Stanmore umpires end and promptly removes the dodgy aussie. He then gets in amongst the middle order who in the words of Corporal Jones, didn't like it up em! Non striking batsmen complain to Harrow umpire that the Stanmore umpire is not calling no-balls. Another couple of wickets and the oppo' captain walks on to the field to complain. The result of this is that the Stanmore umpire volunteers to stand at square leg for the rest of the innings. Harrow umpire only manages to call Farooq for 5 random no balls for the rest of the game as Farooq continues to blitz his way through the batting order.
More contraversy rains as Harrow number 7 given out stumped by the Stanmore umpire after stepping out of his crease thinking that the ball was dead. Calls of ungentlemanly conduct now but oh, what short memories as the same batsman was given the benefit in the previous over when he did the same thing, only this time the Stanmore umpire gave him not out as he admitted that he wasn't watching.
We won the game when Farooq knocked the number 10's middle stump out of the ground, and in the bar the post match drinks were all sweetness and light.
