Match report
Another day fit for cricket. A beautiful evening at Eastcote saw our march of wins come to an abrupt halt. We can use the excuse of Eastcote being in League 1, us being in League 6, them being an A side, us being a C team, 5 regular players missing, 3 people making their debut, a pitch that takes some getting used to, but we were beaten quite easily. Congratulations also to their captain, who achieved a hundred with one ball of the innings to spare.
Nikesh won the toss and elected to field.
CHIRAG KHATRI and NIKESH MISTRI opened the bowling and restricted Eastcote to 37-0 from 6 overs. A good start. Then Eastcote had played themselves in and some good batting displays pushed them along further and quicker. After 10 overs, they were 86 for 1 with SAHIL CHANDARANA bowling their opener. Eastcote kept pushing and hitting and it took a caught and bowled from the Captain, NIKESH MISTRI to get another wicket in the 14th over. By this time they were 137 for 2. No more wickets and they finshed on a large 232 for 2. However, one excellent point is that we only gave away 3 No Balls and 5 Wides, which was fantastic.
We decided to make sure that we didn't lose our wickets to be our first priority and to see what happened from there.
SAHIL CHANDARANA and debutant PHILLIP SCURRY opened and unfortunately they were both lost in the first 2 overs. A dogged defiance from ROBERT SHERMER gained him a lot of time at the crease and kept us from losing wickets. Another debutant, PREET KAPADIA stayed with Robert for a while until he was bowled for 5. In came JOEL FREEDMAN, yet another debutant, who took his time and eventually top scored with 10. More wickets fell, in fact all wickets were bowled. Straight defence practice required! The last wicket fell with just 3 balls to go in the innings. So, we couldn't quite hang on to not being all out, which would have been a fantastic moral victory.
So, the League is finshed after 4 matches. Hopefully, more friendlies to come.
