Match report The rain started to appear at the wrong time, causing confusion whether the match was on. I telephoned Ickenham from a wet Stanmore to see if the match was to be played. A surprising yes was the answer. So off we went, windscreen wipers on, rainmac in the boot. When we arrived it was quite dry, so we played.
Obviously the wet weather caused havoc with our batting techniques. All out for 72 in the 16th over. Poor, poor batting display; silly shots, silly run outs, a general lack of thought, focus and concentration. A top score of 9 shows how poor it was. That was from Vishay. Only one person was bowled. I feel that 9 wickets were somewhat given away.
In between innings we had a welcome chocolate cake break, kindly shared out by the Watson family. This seemed to get the boys together and focussed rather than a bit of silliness at the very beginning, which preceeded the dismal batting display.
So another low target to defend, but we tried valiantly. The bowling was superb. The best it has been in a match all season. Three wickets from the turning Raeman, two wickets from the pacey Vishay and one from Amirthan on his bowling debut. Two great run outs as well. A stunning one from Robert, who whipped off his glove and launched the ball towards the one a half stumps that he could see and smash went the wickets. So from the last 4 overs they needed 15 runs, we need 4 wickets. From the last 2 overs they need 4 runs, we needed 2 wickets. Unfortunately, a lucky top edge sent the ball to the boundary and we had been defeated.
A game of two halves. We must be consistent in all three disciplines. Being fantastic in 2 out of 3 doesn't work.
So the League has finished, only Kenton in a Friendly match next week.
