Match report Another defeat that we could have and probably should have won.
We batted first and were slow to get into our stride, but only lost our first wicket half way through the innings. We then increased momentum to get to 92-5. This included agreat 36 from Jack, including a large six over mid-wicket boundary. A total which was a little short perhaps, but we thought that we had a good chance to defend it.
Pinner started well, pushing and running quick singles, but we grew wise to this and came in closer, forcing them to play more attacking shots. We fielded excellently. This included three superb high cathces; one from Sahil and two from Vishay. Robert also snapped up a sharp catch behind the stumps.
It looked as if Pinner would get to the total before the sun went down on the longest day...but we kept plugging away and took wicket after wicket and it was now getting very tight. Raeman took a couple of wickets, Dylan took a couple of wickets and we had three fantastic run outs, two of them involving Brown the Younger, Jonathan, who was dead eye from fine leg.
Unfortunately they made the good start count and we succumbed in the penultimate over, but not before we had taken 9 wickets.
Good show by our boys. An exciting match with outstanding fielding.
However, extras lost the match for us.
We scored 70 runs off the bat.
They scored 61 off the bat. We gave them the rest!
