Match report A pleasant setting, a beautiful evening and quite a large crowd, including several away fans. After scoring a lot of runs against them in the reverse fixture, we decided to bat first and post a big total. Nikesh lost the toss, but we still were put into bat. Not a good start though, a wicket maiden was the first over. Then Dylan and Robert settled down and put on a few runs using all parts of the bat, including the flat bit on some occasions! They scored 9 each, ran well, called well and pushed us forward. Rohan scored a quick 12. The best batsman yesterday however, was Lance who scored a good 10 at an important part of the innings. He was run out towards the end when we were pushing for every run, which was important as we had several wickets in hand. 112-9 was the final total. Quite respectable I thought. We batted well physically, technically and verbally.
Then came the bowling. Generally too short, too wide and too many variations. (Just bowl your best ball EVERY time!) However, we did have a good start. the off-spins twins; Captain Nikesh and Arjun bowled well for the first 5 overs. In the middle we were hit a bit and gave away a few wides(NO excuses!). Romin and Roshan came on at a difficult time towards the end and bowled very well, both taking a wicket and Roshan being stingy with runs. A lovely catch by Lance during this period helped as well. Nevertheless, they reached our target with 24 balls to spare.
Conclusions; batting good, fielding excellent, bowling erratic.
We need to be consistent with all three disciplines every match.
