Match report This was a good victory against very competent opposition who were better than us in some areas but not others. This has the advantage of showing where we need to concentrate on improvements. I will get on to that later. We batted first with Steven scoring 44 of the first 71 runs when he was out at the end of the 13th over. Greg then came in and scored at approximately the same rate as Steven. Kritin batted through from the start to the middle of the last over providing a backbone to the innings. Zunair came in at the end and gave his wicket for the team on the last ball of the over.
Our bowling was back to our usual good standard in general and our fielding was excellent with one or two minor exceptions and one general problem that I will come to later. The Harefield number 2, Ollie, caused us the greatest problem. He was still in at the start of the last over when they only needed 6 to win but Zunair came back into the attack causing him to get tied up and give a catch to Steven. Two more wickets in that over and only three singles gave us the match.
What are the lessons. Firstly, at the end of their 7th over they had scored 35 including 25 singles, 4 wides and 3 twos. We scored only 9 singles in our first 7 overs although we also had 35 runs on the board at that stage. We are NOT pushing the fielders and going for singles that are there. Secondly, and Harefield were also guilty of this, the in-fielders are throwing in overarm instead of underarm wasting time and targetting the bowlers or keepers feet not their hands. Finally, our in-field was a bit too deep giving the chance of singles. Outfield placement was good. If we can work on theses problems we can do well in this league.
