The Stanmore Cricket Club 3rd XI v Old Actonians on Sat 25 May 2002 at 1.00 pm
The Stanmore Cricket Club Lost 5 Wickets
At 86 for 1 things were looking good for Stanmore and a total of over 150 was a distinct possibility on a slow damp wicket. Unfortunately it was not to be. 86 for 1 soon became 92 - 4 and the wheels were falling off our innings. We eventually crawled to 137 - 7 after fifty overs, a target which should have been out of reach of Old Actonians.
This certainly looked the case as Phil Samuels and Bill Robello made early inroads into the Actonians batting. Unfortunately for us, an Aussie who hadn't played for four years came in and started to smash the ball around and won the game for them.
Actonians were helped in no considerable margin by our inabillity to catch. Eight dropped catches did not help the cause, if we had caught half of them we would have probably won the game comfortably. The old addage is certainly true!!!!!
