Match report What a wonderful start to the season in terms of weather and results.
Arrival at The Common at 8.45am with frost on the ground, but a beautiful blue sky ready to burn off the cold and set us alight for the season ahead.
Wheathampstead CC arrived and the first toss of the season was made. AARON CHUDASAMA making his Stanmore CC captaincy debut lost the toss and Wheathampstead decided to bowl.
Stanmore CC started off well and protected the first couple of overs comfortably at 3 runs per over. KISHEN PATEL and BOB McCANN opened and gave Stanmore a right hand left hand combination. We got to 20 - 2 from 6 overs, a reasonable start, then CAPTAIN CHUDASAMA and JOEL FREEDMAN stepped up the pace, scoring 13 and 17 respectively. Throughout the innings Stanmore pushed along and other scores like; 14 to DILLON CHUDASAMA and 10 to ROHAN ASHAR meant Stanmore ended their 20 overs on 103 - 4.
In the mid-debrief, we talked about batsmen backing up, calling between the wickets and sprinting that first run to turn 1s into 2s and 2s into 3s. Then ROHAN BHARADIA's Dad brought me a nice cup of tea and I relaxed to watch our fielding attempt, as I could because; thanks to Jaylesh(Rohan B's Dad)for umpiring and Mr. Ashar(Rohan A's Dad) for scoring.
CAPTAIN CHUDASAMA was given some sort of plan, but spent the innings organising and controlling the proceedings. In fact, he captained jolly well.
Some good bowling occured and some wide bowling occured and showed that we just needed to tighten up next match. JACK OSBORNE bowled wide first ball, but came back excently with 2 wickets. ROHAN ASHAR, ROBERT SHERMER and DILLON CHUDASAMA all also took wickets.
WHEATHAMPSTEAD CC couldn't quite manage to push the run rate along, due to some good fielding, but also with some poor catching! Stanmore CC won by 41 runs to give us an excellent lift off to the season. Ruislip CC B Team away next.
